What $18.50 will buy you at Farmer’s Market

Posted on

Two weeks ago a new Farmer’s Market opened up at an elementary school near our house.  It’s within walking distance from our house and although small, the selection is fairly varied.  There’s the standard produce and flowers, but also free range meats, baked goods, freshly made pasta and bread.  This is one of the many reasons that I continue to love our house and the neighborhood we live in, how many people can walk out their front door and be at a lovely Farmer’s Market in less than 5 minutes?

Here’s a pic of what I bought:

Now, you’re probably wondering how I spent $18.50 on that, so I’ll be honest- Chris, plug your ears sweetie.  I totally splurged on the tuberoses.  When I smelled them I felt happy and relaxed, and those are two emotions that I have not been experiencing much lately (2010 marketing planning is in full swing at work which means  3 hour planning meetings on top of an already insurmountable mountain of work.  Enough said.)  So yes, I did spend $8 on flowers, but every time I smell them I smile, so to me they are worth every penny.

The muffins were another splurge at $2.50 a piece, but pair that with a double latte in the morning and I’m good to go.  It’s the breakfast of champions.  The strawberries and peaches are melt in your mouth delicious, I already ate one of the peaches.  🙂

The corn comes from the farm of a girl Chris and I knew in college, how cool is that?  We bought some produce from her last time we went and I am going to buy at least one thing from her every time I go.  It’s a nice feeling to know that I am helping to support not only a local farmer, but someone I know as well.

And finally, the cookie.  It just looked good and I like cookies.
